The opening and prize presentation ceremony for the Capital Fine Arts Exhibition was held in Hanoi yesterday with the A prize given to plaster carved painting ‘Mua Thu Giai Phong’ (Liberated Autumn) by Ai Thi.
Two B prizes were awarded to Phan Thanh Son for his glazed terra-cotta ‘Huyen Tich Thang Long’ (Thang Long Legend) and Vu Dinh Tuan with for his silk ‘Ngan Nam Tram Tich’ (Thousand Year Sediment).
Three C prizes were given to Nguyen Quoc Huy for his lacquer painting ‘Chieu Van Mieu’ (Afternoon in Temple of Literature), Tran Xuan Binh for lacquer painting ‘Nang Cong Truong’ (Sunshine at Construction Site) and Nguyen Ba Trach with mix medium work ‘Hanoi, December 1972).’
According to Associate Doctor, painter Tran Huy Oanh, chairman of the art council, the art quality of paintings at this year’s exhibition is higher with more professional art works.Evaluating on prize winning works, he said: “ They are works both closely follow the theme of this year’s exhibition which is about Thousand Year Thang Long – Hanoi, and have perfect technique and performance.
The A prize winning painting, depicting people’s happiness during the liberation day, has been performed in a totally classical art style. The two B prize winning works also bear the contemporary inspiration while the C prize winning painting by Nguyen Quoc Huy, though with a simple subject, is appreciated by its professional lacquer technique.”
Fine arts critic Hai Yen held that one of the speciality of the exhibition is that all displayed works bear the breath, shape and image of the capital city.
This year Capital Fine Arts Exhibition introduces 100 art works by 100 artists, including 79 paintings and 21 sculptures, selected from 200 entries. This is the annual exhibition which was firstly organised in 1966 since the establishment of the Hanoi Fine Arts Association.The exhibition lasts until October 19 at the Gallery 16 Ngo Quyen street, Hanoi.
