From the organizer:
13 years ago,the first “Friends” exhibition was held. These exhibitions have since provided an opportunity for the students of the 7-year training program of the Vienam Art University (also called Yet Kieu Art University) to exhibit jointly. From 2000 on, this exhibition have been held every second year.
Participating artists: Le Van Thin, Tran Luan Tin, Phan Thiet, Pham Mai Chau, Nguyen Thanh Quoc Thanh, Doan Hong and Nguyen Dang Dung.
The artist Le Van Thin manages to be both dynamic and cool with his technique of painting in lacquer on wood. His painting technique may be traditional but he has an unique and beautiful style. The years at the battle front had imbued Le Van Thin’s artworks with many strong emotions.
The artist Pham Mai Chau “expresses” his thoughts and his feelings through a medium both practical and fantastical.
The artist Nguyen Dang Dung “translates” his emotions and thoughts “into wood” with the knife which his father left to him. Nguyen Dang Dung’s father used to be a well-known artist in Dong Ho village. His paintings are simple but always thoughtful. For him, the collaboration between tradition and modern trends is one of the most important problems need to be solved in his artworks.
There seems to be nothing that can make the artist Phan Thiet sad. As a matter of fact, this is the only way of looking at life for a person who has gone through much. He chooses to look on the bright side not only in life but also in the art. You can feel his optimistic outlook through his paintings.
Persisting on the road he has chosen, the artist Nguyen Thanh Quoc Thanh finds the way to best express himself is through the traditional lacquer on wood. He often uses romantic colours in his artworks but he also pays careful attention to realistic details in life.
The artist Doan Hong always looks kindly at people. He values everything in life around him. This can be seen in the way he takes loving care of colours and characters in his paintings.
For the artist Tran Luan Tin, he wants to metaphorize the love of people in today’s hectic life. He clearly intends to express two different spaces in each of his painting. one space is of his character’s. The other is of the background. And that is one way of looking at Tran Luan Tin.
