Le Van Thuoc, from the Ha Noi Fine Arts College, was presented with a Special Prize worth VND10 million (US$625) by Korean minister counsellor Cho-Beak-sang for his painting Tram Tich Day Song Hong (Red River Sediment).
Ha Noi Fine Arts College students Nguyen The Dung won the awards’ first prize, also worth VND10 million, for his painting Su Bao Phu (Covering).
Tran Anh Son, also from the college, won the second prize, worth VND6 million; while Pham Minh Tung from the Cinema and Theatre College, won the third prize, worth VND4 million.
All winning paintings, together with the 36 next best entrees from the 110 submitted works, will be exhibited at the centre at 49 Nguyen Du Street until next Friday.
The Korean Cultural Centre plans to make the Red River Fine Arts Awards a biennial event for Ha Noi-based students, the centre’s director Kim Sang-ug said, adding that the Hong River was similar in many ways to South Korea’s Han River.
The Red River Fine Arts Awards were sponsored by South Korea’s Traditional Cultural Research Institute, the Ha Noi Fine Arts College, the Asian Society Korean Centre and the Korean Cultural centres in Ha Noi and Seoul. — VNS
