Le Anh Can, Tran Thanh Canh, Le Huy Cuu, Nguyen Tuong Linh, Hong Vu Ngan Khai, Bui Huu Phuoc, Tran Kien Quoc, Mac Hoang Thuong, Le Vo Tuan and Le Vo Tuyen will also have the opportunity to have their works – mostly paintings but also photos – exhibited in Melbourne.
The programme is initiated by the city to promote diverse arts and cultural activities amongst young artists.
John So, Melbourne’s mayor, said: “The grants capture the most creative and ambitious work by emerging artists who have had little exposure.”
This is the second time the programme has chosen artists from Viet Nam’s second city in partnership with the Australian consulate in the city and the HCM City Fine Arts College.
The jury said it was impressed with both the talent demonstrated by the artists and their effort they put in.
The Australian consul in HCM City, Mal Skelly, said: “I’m very pleased to be able to support this initiative… The programme not only provides financial support but is also a great encouragement for the selected young artists in HCM City in pursuing their artistic endeavours.
“The Young Artist Grants programme also helps enrich the cultural life of HCM City, thus strengthening the close links between the two cities… ”
