Nguyen Tri Minh Tuyet’s Tieng Vong 1 and Tieng Vong 2 (Echo 1 and Echo 2) feature violins. Tuyet said she has used dark colour in her first work to represent the deep and low notes emitted by the instrument.
The bright colour in her second work, in contrast, invoke the feeling of happiness and joyful melodies from the strings, she said.
Nguyen Thanh Ly Duy’s abstract paintings in black, white, and red feature square and circular shapes representing profound philosophies from daily life.
Duy said that her Danh Mat (Lost), an abstract on dominoes, is intended to be a reminder that people can cause serious repercussions through a minor action.
“I use black and white to indicate the positive and negative sides to humans. My paintings depict the yin and yang.” he said.
The second digital art exhibition is also meant to celebrate the 95th year of establishment of the fine arts college.
The concept of digital art – using computer software instead of a palette and brush – may still be a bit fuzzy but it is increasingly becoming a tool for young artists.
Artist Uyen Huy, head of the HCM City Fine Arts Association and a teacher at the school, told the 13 artists at the opening ceremony that talent or technique alone is not enough to be a successful artist.
It is required to invest one’s sincere emotions to be successful, he said.
The exhibition, at HCM City Fine Arts Association, 218A Pasteur, District 3, comes to a close next Thursday. — VNS
